“Leland is and always has been a special place for Joe’s family. He has been coming up here to his grandparent’s house his whole life, so when we got engaged we knew it would be in Leland. His grandpa taught him how to golf at the Leland Country Club, and the view from the deck is so gorgeous, perfect for a ceremony.
Our original reception venue was the Leland Lodge, however COVID-19 had other plans. When we downsized our guest list from 150 to 20, we moved the reception to his family’s home on Lake Leelanau. Although it wasn’t our original plan, it was so much more meaningful to celebrate our marriage at the home where he grew up and where we will continue to share memories together as a family!

Planning the wedding during this pandemic was full of lots of ups and downs. We were committed to getting married on that date after having been engaged for 2 years. There were a lot of hard days, but once we got to July 18th we were both just so excited and ready to be married.

We talked afterwards about how surprisingly relaxed and calm we were on the morning of the wedding (even as a monsoon plowed through Leland). Even though we were missing the majority of our wedding party, we actually both enjoyed the quiet morning with just our siblings. We really felt like we had accomplished so much by getting to that moment and it felt amazing to celebrate that with our families. It was intimate, meaningful, and full of love and laughter. We will remember that weekend for the rest of our lives!”
